4.20.16 End of MP 3

By Wednesday, April 20th, Gifted & Talented students pursuing independent study should have a minimum of THIRTY contributions to Ning, indicating their learning, experience, and progress.

Help! I don't understand how / what to blog.

Students pursuing independent study are expected to keep a weekly blog to document their learning over the course of the year.  If we were to take a look at your blog in June, it should be an accurate reflection of your learning over the course of the year.  When I read your blog, the question always in my mind is: How does this post / video / photo / link represent this student's learning experience?  So, that this the question to which you are responding with each blog post you make.  Please add text and captions to images and videos so that I can understand what is pictured.  It may not be clear to me what the photograph has to do with your learning.  Finally, the blog is not simply a record of what you are doing; it is a document that shows what you are learning.  You may in fact be learning a lot by observing or listening or reading.

Here are some prompts for making blog posts:

  • What did you learn today?
  • What observations have you made?
  • What feedback has your mentor given you about your progress?
  • Have you been frustrated, challenged, or surprised?
  • What would you like to learn or be able to do in a week, a month, by the end of the year?
  • Has anything made you smile?
  • What are you proud of?
  • What are you wondering about?
  • How is your independent study meeting or challenging your expectations?

If you click the BLOGS tab at the top of this page, you will find, in the right hand column, a list of *featured* blog posts.  These posts are excellent examples of how to combine details of your progress, reflection on your learning, images, and a bit humor into a single post.

Finally, it may be helpful to title your blog posts to help you keep track.

For example: MP 1, post 1; MP 1, post 2, etc.
